Lower values = stronger posterization. 6-8 is a good start.
Posterize - Quick Cheat Sheet
What it does: Reduces the number of distinct values per RGB channel to N steps (2-32), creating flat color areas and a stylized look.
Quantization step:step = 255 / (N - 1), and each channel is mapped to the nearest multiple of step (clamped to 0-255).
Recommended ranges: 4-8 for bold posterization; 10-16 for milder effects. Try 2 for extreme.
Resolution: The canvas keeps the image's original pixel size; it's only scaled visually to fit the page.
Privacy: All processing is done client-side; nothing is uploaded.
Tip: Use "Load sample gradient" to see bands clearly and compare different levels quickly.
Edge cases & notes
Transparent images keep their alpha channel unchanged.
Very large images will render correctly but may be slower to process on low-end devices.
GIF/WEBP with animation: this tool operates on the first frame only.
