Net Area = sum of room rectangles β exclusions (islands, cabinets, shower curb, etc.).
Tile Count (no waste) = Net Area Γ· Tile Area (round up).
Waste adds extra tiles for cuts, breakage, and pattern layout. Typical: Straight 10%, Diagonal 15%, Herringbone 18%.
Boxes = Total Tiles Γ· Tiles per box (round up).
Units: Rooms in ft or m; Tiles in in or cm. All math is converted consistently.
Grout Gap is primarily visual; it doesnβt change total area but may justify higher waste for complex layouts.
Tip: Over-order a few spare tiles for future repairs, especially for dyed/veined batches.
Edge cases & notes
Very irregular rooms? Approximate with multiple rectangles and use exclusions for voids.
Large format tiles (β₯24") and diagonal/herringbone layouts generally require more waste.
Always verify lot/batch color; mixing boxes from different lots can show shade variation.
