Golf Handicap – Quick Cheat Sheet

Handicap Differential per round: ((Adjusted Score − Course Rating) × 113) / Slope, rounded to one decimal.
Index estimate: sort differentials ascending and average the lowest N (you choose N; with 20 rounds, a common practice is 8).
Inputs: Score (after any applicable adjustments), Course Rating (e.g., 71.2), Slope (55–155).
CSV format: score,course_rating,slope (one round per line). All parsing is local; nothing is uploaded.
Rounding: This tool rounds each differential to the nearest 0.1 before averaging.

Important notes

This page provides a practical estimation. Official World Handicap System (WHS) indexes involve additional policies (minimum rounds, special adjustments, soft/hard caps, exceptional score reductions, etc.).
If you have fewer rounds, you can still compute differentials here and choose a smaller N—verify any official index with an authorized provider.
Keep Course Rating and Slope numeric accuracy; rounding them too early can skew results.
