Scientific Notation – Quick Cheat Sheet

Form: a × 10^n where 1 ≤ |a| < 10 and n is an integer.
Normalize: move the decimal so mantissa is in [1,10); each move left adds 1 to n, right subtracts 1.
Convert to sci: find n = ⌊log10(|x|)⌋, set a = x / 10^n.
Arithmetic:
- Multiply: multiply mantissas, add exponents.
- Divide: divide mantissas, subtract exponents.
- Add/Subtract: rewrite terms with same exponent, then add/subtract mantissas; renormalize.

Precision: “Significant digits” controls mantissa rounding in output.
