Percentage Increase – Quick Cheat Sheet

Percent change = ((New − Original) / Original) × 100%.
Increase if result > 0; Decrease if result < 0; No change if 0.
Absolute change (Δ) = New − Original.
If Original = 0 and New ≠ 0, the percent change is undefined (division by zero).
To get the new value from a percent increase: New = Original × (1 + p/100). For a decrease: New = Original × (1 − p/100).
Use decimals for money (e.g., 120.49) or integers for counts (e.g., 450).

Tips & edge cases

Large swings (e.g., 1 → 1000) are valid; keep an eye on units so you don’t mix apples and oranges.
