Convolution – Quick Cheat Sheet

• Linear convolution: y[k] = Σ a[i]·b[k−i] for all integer k; values outside sequence bounds are 0.
• Length: if |A|=N and |B|=M then |Y| = N + M − 1.
• Order matters: A*B = B*A numerically equal, but think of A as signal and B as filter/kernel.
• Smoothing: kernels like [0.25, 0.5, 0.25] act as simple low-pass (moving average).
• Edges: output near ends has fewer overlapping terms; that’s expected in linear convolution.
