Notes
- No interest: required contribution = remaining needed ÷ number of periods.
- With interest: calculator uses a standard compounding model based on your APR and frequency.
- Target date: timeline uses calendar days between today and your target date.
- Rounding: rounding can push you slightly above the goal (safer).
FAQ
Should I use interest?
Use interest if the money is sitting in an account that earns interest (like a HYSA). If you’re saving in cash or a non-interest bucket, leave it off.
What if I can’t hit the monthly number?
Try increasing the timeline, adding a one-time deposit, or switching to weekly contributions to smooth it out.
Does it account for inflation?
Not in this tool. This is a straight savings plan calculator. (A separate inflation-adjusted goal tool would be its own page.)
